Religious Studies The study of one's personal set of religious attitudes, beliefs and practices. Usually includes memorization of important passages, particularly those of the Bible.
Social Studies The study of social relationships and the functioning of society. Usually includes history, geography, government, economics, civics, sociology, and anthropology.
Natural Science The study of sciences (biology, chemistry, physics) that deal with matter, energy, and their interrelations and transformations or objectively measurable phenomena.
Vocabulary, Spelling Vocabulary is the study of a collection of words along with their definitions, usually related to a main subject being studied concurrently. Spelling includes the formation of words from letters according to accepted usage.
Grammar The study of the system of rules that defines the grammatical structure of a language, usually one's own.
Composition, Creative WritingThe study of creating literary compositions, particularly imaginative pieces such as poetry and stories.
Phonics, Reading, LiteraturePhonics is the study of the phonetic values of letters, letter groups and syllables which permits one to read and pronounce words. Reading is the study of applying phonics skills in order to comprehend more and more complex material. Literature is the study of written works produced in one's language, country, or age. Usually considered to be excellent in form or expression and expressing ideas of permanent or universal interest.
Penmanship, Typewriting Penmanship is the study of writing with the pen so as to produce high quality handwriting. Typewriting (usually shortened to typing) is the study of using a typewriter or computer keyboard so as to produce printed text quickly and accurately.
Foreign Language The study of the vocabulary and system of rules that defines the grammatical structure of a language not one's own.
Physical Education The study of the development and care of the body ranging from simple calisthenic exercises to a course of study providing training in hygiene, gymnastics, and the performance and management of athletic games.
Mathematics, Arithmetic Mathematics (usually shortened to math) is the study of the science of numbers and their operations, interrelations, combinations, generalizations, and abstractions, and of space configurations and their structure, measurement, transformations, and generalizations. Arithmetic is the study of the lower levels of mathematics, particularly the application of the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, fractions, and so on.
